Lancaster People’s Cafe

Lancaster People’s Café is run entirely by volunteers.   It is a dynamic project that focuses on social inclusion, the food system and creation of community.  The project offers fantastic opportunities to get involved in something meaningful and practical that will make a real change in our city.  LPC is relatively new and they need more people to get on board now, to share their thoughts and shape the way the project evolves.

They use intercepted food to provide meals, cakes and drinks on a pay as you feel basis

pay as you feel

intercepted foodThey launched in September 2015 with a fundraising café event shortly after the idea was conceived at a Transition City Lancaster Network meeting.  They now run a pop up café on the last Saturday of every month and plan to run more often as more volunteers come on board.  They always need people and if you think you can help out then they would love to hear from you.  Their aim is to create a social space that is welcoming and accessible to all.  They don’t want anyone to feel shut out because money is tight or because they feel they don’t belong.  The café should be an enjoyable place where people with money are happy to pay and people who are short of funds feel just as valued as anyone else.  They want the café to be a social hub, where people mix and there is a true sense of community.

To find out more please visit their website and send them a message on their contact page.

The next People’s Cafe will be on Saturday, 26th November at Christ Church and is supporting Night Shelter so visit their event page on Facebook and tell them to reserve you a place.
