THE ROCK SOLID?

LECTURE BY DR HELEN WALLACE-

10th MAY -THE BOX, KENDAL MUSEUM

Dr Helen Wallace is coming to Kendal to give THE ROCK SOLID? Lecture on
10th May 7pm- 8.30ish
There will also be the opportunity for Questions and Answers.

" European leaders are being misled over the safety of underground disposal of highly dangerous nuclear waste which could poison groundwaters for centuries".

Cumbria is in the frame for what would be the world's first operational
high level geological disposal facility. The Department of Energy and
Climate Change have effectively set Cumbria (the only county to "express
an interest") the goal of putting the first high level waste into a
disposal facility by 2029.

Rock Solid? was written by Dr Helen Wallace, Executive Director of
GeneWatch and is an overview of the status of research and scientific
evidence regarding the underground disposal of highly radioactive wastes.

Saving Freemans Wood

This is an e mail received from a TCL member - we are pasting it below to share it . . 'Freeman's Wood in Lancaster, the wood at the end of Willow Lane, or at the end of New Quay Road, by the builder's merchants (depends which way you approach it). there are wild apples, pears and lots of elder trees (far less now the fence has gone up!) and deer have been seen on a number of occasions.

It is under threat of development by an absentee landlord.
If you have walked that way recently you will have seen the eyesore of a fence.
PLEASE ACT NOW TO SAVE IT!

West Lancashire Vegan Fair - May 12th

Lancaster Friends Meeting House, Saturday May 12th from 11am till 5pm. The venue is next door to Lancaster Railway Station.

Whether you are a vegan, or a vegetarian or omnivore who wants to learn more about veganism, the 2012 West Lancashire Vegan Fair is an excellent place to do so, as it will be the biggest vegan event which has ever been organised in Lancashire.

After 2 successful events near Blackpool in 2009 and 2010 which were featured on BBC Radio Lancashire and in 2 local newspapers, and which were each attended by several hundred people, West Lancashire Vegan Fair moves to a much bigger venue, 2 floors of almost the whole of a building, which gives us a lot of extra space for more stalls, a separate room for a vegan cafe and children's area, and a separate room for speakers.

This year's attractions include:
50+ stalls over 2 floors
Free vegan food
Vegan cookery demos
Speakers
Free recipe booklets
Vegan cafe
Children's area
