TCL Online Meeting

November 26, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

How do we move forwards after COP 26? – TCL Meeting

Thursday 25th November

11:00am to 12:00 noon

or Friday 26th November

7:00pm to 8:00pm

TONY HASLAM and GAIL CAPSTICK will be leading a LIVE discussion event to allow Transitioners to get together to discuss their reactions to COP 26 and to agree on the way forwards for Transition City Lancaster that we have been planning over the last few months.

PLEASE …. reserve your place by sending an email to info@transitioncitylancaster.org with your choice of which meeting you wish to attend.

We would so much like to see you – its been too long – and we have much to organise – new groups, new training programmes, new activities.

THREE Open Doors

A New Transition Community Energy Group will focus on setting up community wind and solar and linking them to ground source heat pumps to distribute heat around a housing estate – just like the Low Carbon Hub in Oxfordshire.

A New Transition Transport Group can focus on setting up community electric vehicle sharing schemes and a community EV car club.

A New Transition Food Group can investigate setting up community precision fermentation and cell agriculture units, which could release land for rewilding and re-establishing biodiversity. It could also work on helping the work of Claver Hill and Food Futures to widen interest in local growing projects and buying locally.

ONE Community Economy

This week we connected with the  main three council officers tasked with the work of reaching Net Zero by 2050 in Lancaster, to give them a demo of our ONE Community App.

They were very interested in what we are doing and want to be involved in its ongoing development and rollout.

They suggested that we apply for funding from the new Community Economy Fund that has just been specifically set up by The National Lottery to support projects like this and can provide between £30,000 and £50,000. The council will support us in this but we need to also get buy in from other local community groups, small businesses and committed groups of volunteers, Once this has been done then the council will be happy to draw up contracts to work with us.

A local community economy can reward volunteers for planting trees, installing solar panels and wind turbines on community owned land, making cycle deliveries, litter pick, recycle plastic, grow fruit and vegetables, grow flowers, save seeds, make compost, make leaf-mould, walk dogs, babysit, mend bicycles etc etc etc. The Council is interested in funding Community Energy schemes for Council owned housing estates and then allowing volunteers earning tokens through the community economy to pay for their electricity using these tokens.

Small businesses can encourage their community by exchanging their goods and services for these tokens and then using these tokens for purchasing goods and services from other businesses, in this region or in other regions.

A New Transition Community Economy Group can focus on training members to lead groups and helping to put together this funding bid to make it happen.

If you have some spare time you want to make good use of then join in the conversation and let us know by emailing info@transitioncitylancaster.org
