OUR Community – a new economy for working together

We are pleased to announce that a new Transition Action Group is being propsed to launch an experimental community economy in Lancaster and Morecambe. We are looking for a small number of local people of all ages who are interested in helping us get this started towards the end of 2022 ready for a wider release in 2023.

OUR Community is a mobile App and an e-commerce site that allows members to join focus Groups who work in their spare time on projects beneficial to their local community and for the benefit of the planet. Instead of being rewarded with money they will be rewarded for their work with OUR COINS, which are digital Tokens of Appreciation, held in their own online account. Depending on the type of work, they could be paid a set amount of OUR COINS per hour, or they could be paid an agreed amount directly by a specific member of the Community or a particular Group.

This will allow people to make use of skills that they have already learned but aren’t able to use in their jobs. It will also allow volunteers to receive some acknowledgement for their efforts without funding needing to be found to pay them. They will then be able to spend their OURCOINS on the ourcommunity.shop e-commerce site which will contain upcycled products and unwanted items for re-use made and offered by specific focus groups within OUR Community.

To get this experiment started we need app testers; help with setting up crowd-funding; help with setting up and testing the online shop. Training for all these jobs will be part of the process and you will be paid in OURCOINS for the work you do so if you’re interested in doing something that could make a big difference to people’s lives at the bottom of the food chain, then don’t be put off by lack of the necessary skills. Together we will get this done!
